Gunter Gabriel nahm seine erste (Band-) Version von „Vor meiner Zeit“ schon für sein Album „Tennessee Projekt“ 2003 in der heiligen „Holz-Baracke“ des Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville nahe Nashville auf, da wo die Country-Ikone seinerzeit wohnte und am Ende seines Lebens auch viele seiner Lieder aufnahm.
Jahre später zollte Gabriel dem „Man in Black“ erneut musikalischen Tribut und nahm sein hochgelobtes Album „LickLab Akustik Session“ im Studio von Nils Tuxen in Seevetal bei Hamburg auf. Es sollte das erste und einzige rein akustische Album – aber auch das finale Werk - in der langen Karriere des deutschen Country-Stars werden – ein Höhepunkt in seinem Schaffen und ein musikalisches Vermächtnis.
Eine Generalüberholung erfuhr „Vor meiner Zeit“ im Wespo Studio Donaueschingen unter der Regie von Rolf Wetzel, der sich der Musik und dem Lieder-Boss mit viel Fingerspitzengefühl näherte. Es ist ein typischer Gabriel: eindrucksvoller, warmer Gesang, ein nachdenklicher und romantischer Text, eine Melodie mit Ohrwurmcharakter. Kurz: Ein Hit!
